Jawaher Al Qasimi: Investment in Funding and Support Drives Success of Female Athletes

Jawaher Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports and Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, emphasizes the crucial role of funding and support in the remarkable achievements of Emirati women in sports. The 2022-2023 season of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club witnessed outstanding success, with athletes securing a total of 335 medals in both individual and team sports at local and international levels.

Highlighting the significance of proper funding and strategic planning, Her Highness states that vibrant sports culture and institutional regulations have contributed to the growth of women’s sports in Sharjah. She expresses the importance of continued support and sponsorship from local institutions, as well as increased engagement from society. Her Highness envisions Arab female athletes excelling in various international sporting arenas.

The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club concludes its season with an impressive medal tally of 335, earned across 70 championships, including 51 local and 19 international competitions. Notable achievements include 166 gold medals, 89 silver medals, and 84 bronze medals in eight individual and team events, with remarkable performances in fencing, archery, shooting, karate, basketball, volleyball, and table tennis.

The success of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club can be attributed to meticulous preparation and comprehensive strategies implemented by the technical, administrative, and medical teams. The club’s management has developed clear plans to enhance sports skills and prepare athletes for championship participation. This includes organizing individual and group camps, totaling 19 local camps and 7 international camps.

To further empower their athletes, Sharjah Women’s Sports and Sharjah Women’s Sports Club collaboratively launched initiatives such as the “Media Appearance Training Workshop for Sports Teams,” conducted in partnership with Sharjah Media City (Shams). Additionally, a dedicated department focusing on healthcare and sports nutrition, led by specialists and experts in the field, was established to provide holistic training and development for the club’s players, in alignment with global best practices.

The achievements of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club reflect the commitment and dedication of female athletes when provided with adequate resources and support. Through continued investment and strategic planning, the club aims to nurture Olympians and elevate the performance of Emirati women in sports on the highly competitive global stage.
