Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, the Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, has brought attention to the significant consequences of disregarding mandatory traffic lanes. In the past eight months alone, a total of 107 accidents have occurred as a result of this violation. Tragically, these accidents have resulted in the loss of three lives, while 75 individuals have sustained various injuries, including two severe injuries, 44 moderate injuries, and 29 minor injuries.

Al Mazrouei further elaborated on the extent of this issue, revealing that Dubai Police’s smart traffic monitoring systems and radars have recorded a staggering 529,735 violations related to not adhering to mandatory traffic lanes. He specifically highlighted the dangerous behavior of some drivers who make sudden lane changes, particularly near intersections or exits on highways. Al Mazrouei emphasized that these actions, captured by the smart systems deployed throughout the emirate’s streets, have the potential to cause severe traffic accidents.

To address this issue, Maj.Gen. Al Mazrouei clarified that the amended executive regulations of the Traffic and Road Law stipulate a fine of AED 400 for light vehicles that fail to comply with mandatory lane requirements. He emphasized that traffic lanes may become mandatory temporarily under specific conditions, such as limited visibility, traffic congestion, accidents, or when waiting for right-of-way at intersections. Additionally, certain lanes may be designated exclusively for specific types of vehicles, such as lanes reserved for buses and taxis.

Reaffirming Dubai Police’s commitment to road safety, Maj.Gen. Al Mazrouei stressed the importance of utilizing smart systems and modern technologies to deter violations. He particularly emphasized the need for vigilance around exits and intersections. In conclusion, he urged all drivers to consistently adhere to mandatory traffic lanes to prevent serious accidents and avoid incurring penalties.
