Andalusia: History and Civilisation’: Performances, art shows in Abu Dhabi from October 8

Emirates Palace is set to host a series of art and music events in the upcoming months, showcasing the rich legacy of an ancient civilisation rooted in Spain. These events will serve as a cultural bridge, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation between Arab and Spanish communities, allowing audiences to fully immerse themselves in the diverse heritage of Andalusia.

In addition to the artistic and musical showcases, the initiative will also encompass gatherings, symposiums, and various events aimed at strengthening the relationship between the United Arab Emirates and Spain. Furthermore, an art exhibition will be held at the esteemed Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, further emphasizing the significance of this cultural exchange.

Under the esteemed patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, this initiative seeks to shed light on the Arab civilisation in Andalusia. It aims to highlight the values of tolerance and coexistence that this civilisation embodies, as well as celebrate its profound contributions to the advancement of science, culture, literature, and the arts.

The initiative also highlights the interconnectedness of various civilizations and cultures, emphasizing the deep-rooted bonds between the United Arab Emirates and Spain, which are based on long-standing human, cultural, and historical foundations.

Commencing the programs on October 8th will be ‘Cordoba Nights’, a symphony orchestra event held at the Emirates Palace, lasting for over an hour. The evening will showcase Spanish Andalusian Symphonies, accompanied by Arabic musical compositions. Under the guidance of esteemed Spanish conductor Inma Shara, a 50-member orchestra will bring this musical fusion to life. Inma Shara is internationally recognized for her contributions to classical music and has been honored with prestigious awards such as the ‘Spain Brand Honorary Ambassador’ and the ‘European Excellence Prize’.

Stanzas
On the 12th of November, Emirates Palace will be hosting an event titled ‘Ya Zaman al Wasli bil Andalusi’, which will showcase the ‘Andalusia Stanzas’. This event will feature an 80-minute performance by a mixed choir of male and female singers, presenting a selection of the most renowned stanzas pieces. Accompanied by a band comprising 65 vocalists and musicians, the event will be directed by the esteemed maestro Ghada Harb.

Flamenco
On the 20th of December, Emirates Palace will be hosting a Flamenco Night, a 90-minute show performed by Ana Morales, a globally celebrated flamenco dancer. She will be accompanied by her band of nine dancers, singers, and musicians.

On the 15th of January, 2024, the musical journey will continue into the new year with an Arab-Spanish Night-themed event titled ‘Guitar and Oriental Takht’. The stage will be graced by the internationally acclaimed guitarist Antonio Rey, who will be accompanied by an ensemble of five Spanish guitarists harmonizing with seven Arab musicians. These musicians will be playing traditional oriental instruments such as Oud, Qanun, Joza, Tanbur, and Buzuq.

Rey is widely recognized as one of the most prominent figures in the current flamenco guitar landscape. He has received numerous awards, including the Latin Grammy, first place at the prestigious ‘Bordon Minero Prize’, and the ‘Minas de la Union Murcia award’.Mohammed Al Murr, chairman of the Initiative Committee, said: “These music programmes are a testament to our efforts to highlight Andalusia’s cultural heritage and showcase its beauty.
