UAE: Single-use plastic bags banned in this emirate from January 1, 2024

On New Year’s Day, a new rule will come into effect in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, under Law No. (4) of 2023, which has been announced by the Environmental Protection and Development Authority. This law prohibits the use, possession, trading, sale, or distribution of single-use plastic materials in the Emirate, starting with a ban on single-use plastic bags. The aim of this law is to reduce the use of non-biodegradable plastic materials and preserve natural resources, while also promoting social responsibility towards environmental issues and challenges. The disposal of plastic in all its forms is a major environmental problem, as it releases hazardous chemicals into the environment that negatively affect our environment and health. Therefore, the Environmental Protection and Development Authority in Ras Al Khaimah urges all segments of society to collaborate towards achieving sustainable development.
