UAE: A significant player in renewable energy scene in UK

The UAE has reinforced its worldwide leadership by actively collaborating with international companies to implement renewable energy solutions and advanced technologies and support transformative efforts in the global energy sector.

This has been made possible through the launch of economically feasible strategic projects. These endeavours play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of climate change and advancing sustainable growth.

The UAE has invested over $50 billion in renewable energy projects in 70 countries, with plans to invest an additional $50 billion in the coming decade. Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) represents a dynamic model and significantly contributes to mitigating climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, the company is investing over $30 billion in sustainable projects, including successfully promoting new technologies that support the sustainability goals of the UAE and the world.

The UAE’s hosting of COP28 offers a global interactive platform to rally international efforts to enhance collaborative work, realistic and logical transitions in the energy sector, promote innovation, and embrace sustainability in clean energy to combat the negative consequences of climate change and preserve the planet.

The UAE’s pioneering renewable energy projects in the United Kingdom serve as an important model for responsible investment in transforming the energy sector and reducing carbon emissions. These projects are also facilitated by the UK’s encouraging and supportive regulatory framework for the growth of the clean energy sector.

The London Array stands as a clear testament to the UAE’s position as a responsible and committed innovator in the energy field. It is one of the notable achievements Masdar has made, possessing a conscious and ambitious vision for the future of energy worldwide.

Inaugurated in 2013, this is one of the world’s largest offshore wind power stations with a production capacity of 630 megawatts. The station’s 175 wind turbines harness the power of the wind to generate electricity for more than half a million homes in the UK and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately one million tons annually. This solidifies the UAE’s unique stature as a responsible energy provider worldwide in various forms.

Additionally, Masdar invests in the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm with a capacity of 402 megawatts, providing clean electricity to over 410,000 homes and avoiding the release of 893,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

This power station is located 32 kilometres off the coast of North Norfolk in East Anglia, England. The station’s turbines, situated at a depth ranging from 18 to 25 metres in the sea, operate where wind speeds reach up to 9.8 meters per second. The station covers an area of 35 square kilometers. It is one of the largest offshore wind power stations in the United Kingdom, providing 402 megawatts of clean electricity to over 410,000 homes and contributing to avoiding the release of 893,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Masdar acquired Arlington Energy, a company specialising in energy storage system development headquartered in the United Kingdom. This significant step has further expanded Masdar’s presence in the renewable energy market in the United Kingdom and Europe while supporting the countries in achieving their climate neutrality goals.

In Scotland, Masdar developed the Hywind Scotland offshore wind power station, the world’s first floating offshore wind farm, with a capacity of 30 megawatts. This innovative project provides power to approximately 6,600 homes and helps avoid the release of 63,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

This station is located about 25 kilometres off the coast of Aberdeenshire, supplying clean electricity to around 20,000 homes through its five wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6 megawatts. This pioneering project represents an essential step in advancing the renewable energy sector.

In these endeavours, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable and responsible energy investment, demonstrating a global vision to build a cleaner and more sustainable future for all.
