Ajman University has been shortlisted for the QS Reimagine Education Award 2024 in the “Sustainability Education Action” category for its environment-friendly initiative called the “Greening Communities: Mangrove Planting Project”.
This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to sustainability, while the project aligns with the UAE’s ambitious goal of planting 100 million mangrove trees by 2030.
The Greening Communities project, led by the Office of Sustainability at Ajman University, was developed in collaboration with Al Zorah Development Private Company and Quest for Adventure.
The initiative plays a vital role in environmental conservation and involves local communities in preserving and rejuvenating mangrove ecosystems, demonstrating Ajman University’s proactive role in contributing to a sustainable future.
Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, remarked, “The nomination for the QS Reimagine Education Award underscores our dedication to sustainability and our determination to empower communities through impactful environmental actions. We take pride in our contribution to the global endeavour to build a more sustainable future, while strengthening the pivotal role of universities in driving meaningful change.”
He added, “The Greening Communities project is a testament to the power of collaboration. By engaging with local and global partners, we aim to inspire future generations to take up the mantle of environmental stewardship and innovation.”
The project encompasses a range of educational programmes and workshops to increase awareness of critical environmental issues. They provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to address environmental challenges and empower them to serve as advocates for positive change in their communities.
The QS Reimagine Education Award is a highly respected accolade in the education sector, recognising groundbreaking approaches that enhance learning outcomes, employability, and innovative methods for teaching sustainability.
Each year, the competition attracts over 1,200 submissions globally, rigorously evaluated by a panel of more than 900 international expert judges.
