The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli bombing of a United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) school in Gaza, which was sheltering displaced persons.
The attack resulted in the martyrdom of over 40 Palestinians and injured numerous civilians, most of whom were women and children.
In a statement issued today, the OIC considered the Israeli bombing as an extension of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, relevant United Nations resolutions, and orders from the International Court of Justice.
The OIC welcomed the United Nations’ decision to include Israel, the occupying power, on the list of violators of children’s rights in armed conflicts, known as the “list of shame,” as an important step towards supporting the rule of international law and ending the culture of impunity concerning Israeli war crimes, thereby ensuring justice for Palestinian victims.
The organisation called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to fulfil its responsibilities by working to end the continuous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and taking serious measures to ensure the accountability of those who commit war crimes and genocide against Palestinians, ultimately achieving international justice.
