Abdullah bin Zayed commends sustainable partnership between UAE and G20

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has commended the invitation extended from the Federative Republic of Brazil to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the G20 process in 2024. His Highness emphasized that participating in the G20 for the third consecutive year and the fifth time since the establishment of the Group reflects the sustainable partnership between the UAE and the G20, and embodies the developing relations and strategic ties between the UAE and Brazil across various fields.

His Highness affirmed the UAE’s support of the Federative Republic of Brazil’s presidency of the G20, highlighting that the UAE’s invitation to participate in the G20 as a guest country embodies the deep-rooted and growing ties between both countries, that support international endeavors aiming to achieve sustainable development across various sectors.

His Highness expressed that the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, is committed to multilateralism, cooperation, partnering with prominent international organizations, and joint multilateral collaboration that supports peace and development to achieve well-being and prosperity among nations.

His Highness stated: “The UAE’s significant and active contributions to advance G20 priorities were evidenced by its participation as a guest country at the G20 summit held in France in 2011, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2020, Indonesia in 2022, and India in 2023, when it made significant contributions concerning various topics including the COVID-19 post-pandemic recovery, climate change, energy transition, and achieving sustainable development goals.”

His Highness added: “The recent hosting of COP28 was a remarkable accomplishment for the UAE as it successfully steered the international climate event’s meetings and negotiations towards an excellent culmination: the UAE Consensus, an agreement by 198 countries that heralds a new era of ambitious and effective climate action.”

Furthermore, the UAE participated in the inaugural G20 Sherpa Meeting which took place in Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, from December 11th to 13th, 2023. During the meeting, the Brazilian Presidency highlighted the G20 priorities for 2024, and led discussions covering a range of key items and issues on the G20 agenda across various areas.

In this regard, Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State and the UAE G20 Sherpa, highlighted the importance of the UAE’s invitation to the G20 for the third consecutive year and for the fourth time since 2020.

His Excellency reaffirmed the UAE’s support for the priorities announced by Brazil for the G20, that focus on combating hunger and poverty, sustainable development, energy transitions, and global governance.

The minister  reiterated the importance of building upon the significant outcomes and successes achieved during the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which recently concluded its successful agenda in the UAE. In addition to delivering with the historic UAE Consensus, the Conference also succeeded in collecting and stimulating more than USD 85 billion in financial commitments, launched 11 pledges and declarations and garnered a considerable number of unprecedented, historic, and prominent international endorsements.
